What’s Happening

Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus

Contact: kmcgregor@unityfortmill.org

This Fall, children and their families are invited to undertake the Unity Walking challenge together, walking 6 miles over 6 Sunday afternoons in September, October, and November, the same distance it is to walk from Bethlehem to Jerusalem. We know Jesus walked just about everywhere he went, so we will walk in the footsteps of Jesus as we hear stories of his ministry like calling the disciples to “Come and follow him”, walking on water, and walking on the road to Emmaus after his resurrection. We will play a game or two, and then walk the Unity mile around our campus, giving us time to move our bodies and reconnect with one another. Our first meeting will be Sunday, September 12 at 3:00 pm. We will hear the story of Mary and Joseph walking from Nazareth to Bethlehem on that first Christmas Eve. Parents, grandparents, and children of all ages are invited to wear their favorite Christmas clothes and come walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

Adult Faith Formation This Fall

Contact: KMcGregor@UnityFortMill.org

Adults of all ages are encouraged to find a way to connect with God and our Unity family this fall. There are 3 adult Sunday morning options, several small groups and weekday Bible studies, and a few year-long opportunities to grow in faith. There is something for everyone. Some will meet solely on Zoom, many will be hybrid, meeting both in person at church and offering a Zoom option for those unable or uncomfortable with coming in person, and a few meeting in-person only in our larger spaces on campus, socially distanced and with masks recommended for now. Start dates also vary as we await the opening of and look forward to using our Historic Sanctuary and Courtyard. Click here for more information on all of the opportunities. No registration is needed for Sunday school classes.

To register for any of the year-long or small groups, log into Unity’s website here or contact Kathryn McGregor at KMcGregor@UnityFortMill.org or 803-547-5543.

Dimes for Hunger

Date: September 5th - October 3rd
Contact: alee@unityfortmill.org

DIMES FOR HUNGER began in our presbytery in 1977 when most of the textile mills in our area closed, and many people who lost their jobs were unable to feed themselves and their families.  The plan was simple: ask each member in each of our churches to give one dime – per meal – per day for the month of September.  The offering would be used to help provide food for our neighbors who were hungry.  Why do we continue to do this?  Christ told his disciples to “give them something to eat.”

This is the 44th year that Providence Presbyterians have responded to Christ’s call to “give them something to eat.” [Mark 6:37]

There are still many in need of food in our area.  Let’s save our CHANGE, so we can give our CHANGE, so we can do more to CHANGE the lives of those who are hungry here at home and farther away.

Unity Walking/Hiking Challenge Registration

Date: September 1st, 2021 - November 30th, 2021
Contact: wdonrice@gmail.com, commspecialist@unityfortmill.org

Walking/Hiking is recommended by doctors as the very best exercise to improve both physical and mental health. Beginning on September 1, 2021, and running until November 30, 2021, Unity is conducting a Walking/Hiking Challenge as part of our Unity 140 Year Historic Sanctuary Celebration. During the challenge, each person is to set a goal considering where they are now, and what will be a challenge for them. If you complete the challenge, you will be recognized and receive a small 2 1/2 inch Cross and Unity Bookmark made from the Heart Pine flooring from the Historic Sanctuary. You can do your walking anywhere, but we encourage you to do some of your walks on the beautiful Unity campus. We will be providing maps of the routes at Unity. The routes will include a Unity Mile, 1/2 Mile, 1/3 Mile, 0.1 Mile, and 0.05 Mile distance.

All of the walks can be done individually, but walking with a group is a great opportunity to socialize and get to know others! In addition, on the spiritual side, we are asking folks to include a short devotional, such as reading Dr. Matt Rich’s daily devotional. We are asking the many groups in the church to consider doing a weekly group walk. There will be a special recognition given to any Unity group whose members miles add up to the 1400 Miles – Traveling with Paul: First Missionary Journey Challenge.

Join the Walking/Hiking Challenge and make a difference in your Physical, Mental, and Spiritual Life!

Would you like to honor a family member, friend, or a special group of people?  Placing fresh flowers in the sanctuary to the glory of God is a perfect way to remember and celebrate a special person/s or occasion in your life.  You may order flowers from a local florist or provide your own arrangement with flowers from your yard or another place of business that sells fresh-cut flowers.  Your name along with the name or occasion being honored will be printed in the church bulletin.

Click here to sign up and complete the steps for selecting your choice of Sundays.  All instructions are included.  If you have questions, please contact Debbie Butler (dsbutler@UnityFortMill.org or 803-547-5543).

Worship in the Sanctuary

Date: Sunday Mornings
Time: Both 8:45am and 11:00am services

We are excited to continue with Sunday morning in-person indoor worship in the sanctuary. However, we recognize the need for continued vigilance and love to ensure as a community that we minimize the risk of both spreading and contracting COVID-19. As disciples of Jesus, we seek above all else to love the Lord our God and to love our neighbors as ourselves, so following guidance from global health experts, we have prepared to worship together.
