What’s Happening

Dimes for Hunger

Date: September 4th - October 2rd
Contact: alee@unityfortmill.org

DIMES FOR HUNGER began in our presbytery in 1977 when most of the textile mills in our area closed, and many people who lost their jobs were unable to feed themselves and their families.  The plan was simple: ask each member in each of our churches to give one dime – per meal – per day for the month of September.  The offering would be used to help provide food for our neighbors who were hungry.  Why do we continue to do this?  Christ told his disciples to “give them something to eat.”

This is the 44th year that Providence Presbyterians have responded to Christ’s call to “give them something to eat.” [Mark 6:37]

There are still many in need of food in our area.  Let’s save our CHANGE, so we can give our CHANGE, so we can do more to CHANGE the lives of those who are hungry here at home and farther away.

DIMES FOR HUNGER runs from September 4 to October 2.

Trunk or Treat

Date: Saturday, October 22nd
Time: 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Contact: kmcgregor@unityfortmill.org

Join Unity on Saturday, Oct. 22nd from 3:00 – 5:00 pm on the front lawn for Trunk or Treat!

This is a free event for Unity families and the community at large. Wear your costumes and enjoy fun, fellowship, games, and prizes! We are Teal Pumpkin Initiative Friendly!

Bring a non-perishable food donation for the Fort Mill Care Center.

Ways you can help:

  1. Provide a trunk – Bring your car, truck, or vehicle of any kind to park on the front lawn. Decorate your trunk in whatever way you choose. Welcome children and families by passing out a sweet treat or non-candy item as they walk by your trunk. Enjoy seeing the children’s costumes and connecting with Unity families and families from the community this fall.
  2. Donate individually wrapped, nut-free candy for our trunks. Donation bins are located outside the church office and in the Narthex.
  3. Donate inexpensive, small non-candy items such as spider rings, glow bracelets, carnival beads, etc. for our trunks to pass out to children who may have food allergies and prefer a non-candy treat. Donation bins are located outside the church office and in the Narthex.
  4. Help set up or clean up. Set up volunteers are needed from 1:00-2:30pm to set up tents and help trunk hosts get parked. Clean up volunteers are needed from 5:00-6:00pm to take down tents, clean up trash, and put supplies away.

Please sign up here to help in one of these ways as soon as possible, but no later than October 12th, with all candy and non-candy donations dropped off at the church by Sunday, October 16th.  This gives our planning team time to know what else we need to make this a fun and hospitable event for our Unity families and our Fort Mill neighbors.

Sponsored by Children’s and Youth Ministry Teams.

Sign Up to Write an Advent Devotion

Contact: kmcgregor@unityfortmill.org

You are invited to help us write or create art for our 2022 Advent Devotions. The devotions will be written by the members of the congregation and will be available in printed booklet form and online on the church website and Facebook page. They will begin on the first Sunday of Advent, November 27, and continue each day through Christmas Day. The theme for our devotions will be: “Glory Draws Near” and will mirror the scripture passages being used each Sunday in worship during Advent. Each day, a passage of scripture has been chosen. Week 1: Glory Passes By; Week 2: The Glory of the Lord shall be Revealed; Week 3: Gloria; Week 4: The Glory of the Lord Shone Around Them. These devotions will help members of our church family learn more about each other, learn from each other, and prepare for the celebration of Christmas. Devotions may be written by individuals, couples, or families of all ages. Additionally, we would love to include some artwork by people of all ages. To participate, click here to sign up for a particular day. The assigned scripture for that day is listed beside that date.

2022 Flower Calendar

Contact: mkrug@UnityFortMill.org

Would you like to honor a family member, friend, or a special group of people?  Placing fresh flowers in the sanctuary to the glory of God is a perfect way to remember and celebrate a special person/s or occasion in your life.  You may order flowers from a local florist or provide your own arrangement with flowers from your yard or another place of business that sells fresh-cut flowers.  Your name along with the name or occasion being honored will be printed in the church bulletin.

Dates for 2022 have now been added to a sign-up genius on the church’s website for reserving a Sunday to place flowers in the sanctuary.  You may click here and complete the steps for selecting your choice of Sunday(s).  All instructions are included.  If you have questions, please contact Michaela Krug (mkrug@UnityFortMill.org or 803-547-5543).

Early sign-up is recommended to ensure the Sunday of your choice.
