Scripture – Luke 17:11-13

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten men with a skin disease approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

Prayer Focus: In the ancient world, the term “leprosy” did not refer to a specific disease but was a catch-all term for any kind of skin condition or blemish that appeared out of the ordinary. Despite varying levels of severity and contagiousness, it was a dreaded diagnosis that required one to live in total isolation from the rest of the community. Take a moment and imagine the anguish and desperation that these men must have felt as they approached Jesus from a distance. As they call out to him and beg for mercy, I wonder if they viewed this as a last-ditch effort to experience healing and return to the lives they yearned for. When in your life have you felt this kind of desperate hope? Today, pray that in our moments of desperation, we too might be able to call out to Jesus.
