Scripture – Psalm 111:5-8

He provides food for those who fear him;
    he is ever mindful of his covenant.
He has shown his people the power of his works,
    in giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just;
    all his precepts are trustworthy.
They are established forever and ever,
    to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

Prayer Focus: In these verses, the Psalmist reminds us of the ways that God has provided for God’s people throughout history. Not only has God has provided Israel with food, one of the most basic and primitive human needs, but God has also provided them strength, protection, and a foundational identity as God’s people. This promise is rooted in the covenant that God made with Abraham. Despite the Israelites’ failure to uphold their end of the covenant, God keeps God’s promises. God continues to be Israel’s God. Today, give thanks for the ways that God provides for us. Give thanks for the ways that God continues to be for us, despite our failures. Give thanks for the good news of scripture which offers us reminders of God’s faithfulness throughout history.
