Scripture- Acts 1:6-8

He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Prayer Focus: Unfortunately, Jesus does not provide the disciples with the clear-cut timeline or answers they were asking for. He doesn’t ease their anxieties or promise that their dream of a restored Israel is right around the corner. In fact, he tells them that the timeline is none of their business- ugh! Instead, Jesus gives them a calling, a great commission. He tells them that they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and that they will be his witnesses not only in Judea, but in Samaria and “to the ends of the earth.” The disciples were focused on the restoration of Israel, but Jesus urges them to think bigger. This isn’t just about restoring Israel; this is about restoring all of creation! Today, I pray that we each may discern what it would look like for us to be a witness to Jesus. What would it look like for that witnessing not to be confined by our narrow, self-centered vision, but to reach out and touch every corner of the world?
