Scripture – Acts 1:6
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?”
Prayer Focus: Forty days have passed since the resurrection of Christ on Easter and the disciples are gathered together in Jerusalem. After all they have experienced including witnessing the violent arrest and crucifixion of Jesus, followed by his miraculous resurrection, we can imagine that they are exhausted. They can’t help but wonder: will our messianic dreams of a restored kingdom of Isreal finally be realized? Scholar N.T. Wright comically compares the disciples’ question to that of a child in the middle of a long road trip asking, “Mom, dad, are we there yet!?” Impatience is part of our human nature, as all of us can recall moments in our own lives where we have turned to Jesus desperately seeking a clear timeline and roadmap for when and how our hopes will be realized. What are the hopes and fears that you hold this day? Know that your impatience and desire for control is deeply human. I pray that all of us may be able to vulnerably lift those hopes and fears to God, trusting that God is big enough to hold all of them
