Scripture – 1 Corinthians 1:6-7

6 just as the testimony of Christ has been strengthened among you—

7 so that you are not lacking in any gift as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer Focus: The diversity and valuing of spiritual gifts will also become a significant theme in this letter, so Paul touches on that in his opening thanksgiving too. The testimony, the good news of the gospel, has been strengthened among the Corinthians so that they are not lacking in any gift. Notice that the gifts are the result of the gospel – not some innate talents the Corinthians already possess. And they are not lacking in any gift that is needed as they wait for the coming of the Lord. The “you” in this passage is plural, so all the necessary gifts are present in the community of faith. Each and everyone is needed, welcomed, and valued as that’s the only way all the gifts will be present. Pray that you might see and know the spiritual gifts shared by others in your community – and that you might have confidence to share your own as well.
