Scripture – Luke 20:29-33
29 Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman and died childless;
30 then the second
31 and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless.
32 Finally the woman also died.
33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her.”
Prayer Focus: The Sadducees, seeking to test Jesus, create a hypothetical about a woman who married one of seven brothers. Her husband died before they had children, so she marries the second, the third, etc. with each brother dying before they had any children. In the resurrection, whose wife will the woman be? The question is designed to be absurd. We live in a world in which hyperbole and exaggeration are taken as the norm. Most often they are shared to create distrust and anger, not engender love and care for those who are in need of assistance. Pray that you might see through the exaggerations today so that you might care for one who needs your help.
