Scripture – Jeremiah 32:11-14

11 Then I took the sealed deed of purchase containing the terms and conditions and the open copy,

12 and I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel, in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all the Judeans who were sitting in the court of the guard.

13 In their presence I charged Baruch, saying,

14 “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware jar, in order that they may last for a long time.

Prayer Focus: The purchase of this field becomes a community announcement. In this, Jeremiah shares another word from the Lord that both the open/public document of the land transfer and the private deed are to be put in an earthenware jar so that they may last for a long time. There were no safe deposit boxes or fireproof safes in ancient Israel. So, if one wanted a piece of paper like a record of a deed to last, it was stored in an earthenware jar. The reason for this land transfer is beginning to come into focus. The city will fall; the king will be exiled; but this is not the end of the story. Someone will need these records in the future. Pray that you might take a long view today. Trust that what God is doing in this moment will be proclaimed and shared for a long time.
