Prayer Focus: We turn to Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount on fasting with the final two days of this week. I notice two things in this verse – the first is “whenever you fast,” indicating that fasting is not an option. It should be the regular practice of God’s people. The second is that fasting is not designed to draw attention to ourselves. Pray that you might tend your soul with fasting as a spiritual practice, but not to draw attention to yourself. Pray that it might be a practice that transforms your soul.
