Scripture – Luke 13:22-25
22 Jesus went through one town and village after another, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. 23 Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able. 25 Once the owner of the house has got up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then in reply he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’
Prayer Focus: We turn in the last few days of this week to the Gospel according to Luke as Jesus is teaching on his journey toward Jerusalem. As he travels someone asks him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He seems to answer yes, but he does so in what appears to be a parable. As we found this summer, parables puzzle us and this one does too. But note that it begins with an encouragement, “strive to enter through the narrow door.” There is a place for you, so seek to enter the party through the way that has been prepared.
