Scripture – Luke 13:26-28
26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ 27 But he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you come from; go away from me, all you evildoers!’ 28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrown out.
Prayer Focus: As we live into a vision like “A Place at the Table” it seems paradoxical to hear verses like this that indicate there will be those outside weeping and gnashing teeth. Why do Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophets get a place but we are thrown out? Robert Farrar Capon suggests that the narrow door is death and that the only people left out here are those who are trying to get in all by themselves on their own efforts. Are we willing to give up our pride and claim that we belong at the table in order to receive the gift of Christ’s invitation?
