Scripture – Psalm 114:1-2
1 When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2 Judah became God’s sanctuary,
Israel his dominion.
Prayer Focus: Throughout the fall, we will prayerfully consider several texts from Israel’s exodus from Egypt to the land of promise. The rest of this week, we hear how the Psalmist remembered the Exodus journey through the sea in poetic verse. The psalm begins by remembering that as Israel, also called the house of Jacob or Judah, left Egypt their relationship with God changed. God comes to dwell with them. They become God’s sanctuary. We might think that God only comes to dwell with us in Jesus, but this has always been the character of God. Pray that God might come to dwell with you today; that you might become God’s sanctuary.
