Scripture – Psalm 111:1-4

Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
    in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Great are the works of the Lord,
    studied by all who delight in them.
Full of honor and majesty is his work,
    and his righteousness endures forever.
He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
    the Lord is gracious and merciful.

Prayer Focus: In this song of praise and thanksgiving, the Psalmist celebrates the greatness and majesty of God’s works. From the very first verse of the Psalm, the Psalmist is clear that this praise does not occur in isolation, but rather it is practiced in the “company of the upright” and “in the congregation.” God did not intend for us to worship God all by ourselves. The communal act of praising God is holy and sacred. This is precisely what we do each week when we come together to worship God. Today, pray for our community of faith that joins together to worship each week. Pray that God might help us to continue to join together to offer our praise and thanksgiving to God.
