Scripture – Jeremiah 32:6-8

6 Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me:

7 Hanamel son of your uncle Shallum is going to come to you and say, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.’ ”

8 Then my cousin Hanamel came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, “Buy my field that is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.” Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.

Prayer Focus: In response to the King’s question about his prophecy concerning the destruction of Jerusalem, Jeremiah shares another word of the Lord. This one has to do with buying property. His cousin has a piece of property for sale and Jeremiah has the first right to purchase it. When Hanamel comes to him with this exact offer, Jeremiah knows that it is indeed the word of the Lord. What will it take for you to trust the word of the Lord today? What sign do you need? Pray that you might believe not in the sign, but in the word God intends you to hear.
