Scripture – Jeremiah 32:3b-5

3b Zedekiah had said, “Why do you prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord: I am going to give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

4 King Zedekiah of Judah shall not escape out of the hands of the Chaldeans but shall surely be given into the hands of the king of Babylon and shall speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye,

5 and he shall take Zedekiah to Babylon, and there he shall remain until I attend to him, says the Lord; though you fight against the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed?”

Prayer Focus: The King cannot understand how Jeremiah could say that the Babylonians were going to defeat the city of Jerusalem and that Zedekiah would be carted off to Babylon. Surely the Lord is on our side, right? Surely no one can defeat God’s people and carry off their king? But this is the Word that Jeremiah has spoken from the Lord. How can God still be at work when things do not go the way we want them to go? How can God use “those people” to accomplish God’s will and purposes in the world? Pray that you might see beyond the immediate with a vision of God’s larger plans for love and care. Pray that you might trust in the Lord even when the way is quite difficult.
