2 For if a person with gold rings and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and if a poor person in dirty clothes also comes in,
3 and if you take notice of the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Have a seat here in a good place, please,” while to the one who is poor you say, “Stand there,” or, “Sit by my footstool,”
Prayer Focus: Have you ever noticed how you respond or react to people based on how they look? What comes to your mind if you see a person whose skin and hair are different than yours? What about a person covered in tattoos? What about someone wearing a perfectly fitted designer suit? What about someone with no shoes? What about someone with a MAGA hat? What about someone with a rainbow pride shirt on? In James’ letter the topic is about the economic gap between the rich and the poor, but in our lives, we could substitute that partiality with many other distinctions. Pray this week that you might begin to recognize some of your reactions and begin to treat all people with God’s love no matter their appearance.
