Wednesday, August 3: Scripture – Hebrews 11:9-12
9 By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.
10 For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
11 By faith, with Sarah’s involvement, he received power of procreation, even though he was too old, because he considered him faithful who had promised.
12 Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, “as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.”
Prayer Focus: We learn that as we live “by faith” we do not do so alone. Abraham lived in tents as a sojourner in a foreign land, but then we learn that Isaac and Jacob did as well. Sarah was also a part of this journey of faith and, despite the fact that they were both so old they were as good as dead, by faith they produced descendents. And these descendants produced a family “as many as the stars of heaven” Give thanks for those who walk this journey of faith with you. Do not just do it silently in your prayers; reach out and say thanks to at least one person who journeys with you.
