Scripture – Jeremiah 1:6-10 (CEV)

6 I replied, “I’m not a good speaker, Lord, and I’m too young.”

7 “Don’t say you’re too young,” the Lord answered. “If I tell you to go and speak to someone, then go! And when I tell you what to say, don’t leave out a word!

8 I promise to be with you and keep you safe, so don’t be afraid.”

9 The Lord reached out his hand, then he touched my mouth and said, “I am giving you the words to say, 10 and I am sending you with authority to speak to the nations for me.

Prayer Focus: Jeremiah, like many in the Bible, had a list of reasons that he was not the right person for the job. He didn’t speak well, like Moses. He was young, like David. But God didn’t choose Jeremiah because he had all the gifts for the task. God gifted Jeremiah for the task he called him to do. God promised to be with Jeremiah as he was sent out to speak to the nations. As commentator, John Goldingay, says, “In the Bible, it doesn’t mean that people feel that God is with them and that things will be OK. It means God is with them in a way that brings protection, whether or not they feel God is with them.”1 Pray that when God calls you to do something, you will trust that God is with you and has prepared you for the task.
