17 How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses to help? 18 Little children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.

Prayer Focus: I chose this as one of the passages for our Children’s Sabbath service because it reminds me that children don’t have to wait until they are adults to fully participate in a life of faith. Even little children are reminded to act in loving ways toward those in need. They have a specific call here to share Christian love with others in need and can model this kind of love for adults. When the children planning our service were asked who is being addressed in this passage, though, they reminded me that in God’s eyes we are all little children. Every person is a child of God, no matter your age. So, this passage isn’t just a call to our children. It is a call that includes us all. Pray that you may share God’s love by helping others in need this week through your actions, not just your words.
