Tuesday, May 24: Scripture – Acts 16:19-21
19 But when her owners saw that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the authorities.
20 When they had brought them before the magistrates, they said, “These men are disturbing our city; they are Jews
21 and are advocating customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to adopt or observe.”
Prayer Focus: One would think that casting out a spirit from someone would result in rejoicing and thanksgiving. However, the spirit was a money-maker for the owners of the slave-girl, so they are angry. They make a citizens’ arrest, drag Paul and Silas before the authorities, and accuse them of disturbing the city. Essentially accusing them of “not being from around here and bringing new ideas.” Pray for those who are new to our community. Pray for those who see a way to do things differently. Pray for those who seek to bring freedom, especially if that freedom brings inconvenience to those with power.
