Scripture – Luke 15:13-16
13 A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant region, and there he squandered his wealth in dissolute living. 14 When he had spent everything, a severe famine took place throughout that region, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that region, who sent him to his fields to feed the pigs. 16 He would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, and no one gave him anything.
Prayer Focus: The younger son liquidates his inheritance and leaves town for a distant region. I suspect that you yourself have had a moment when you just wanted to make it on your own, whether that means moving to a new town, getting a new job, heading to college, etc. Whatever the younger son’s plan or intention, he soon finds himself in need again. He makes an attempt to provide for himself, but still finds his stomach rumbling. In a story that begins with this young man’s father giving him his inheritance, now we find that “no one gave him anything.” Have you ever had a plan that just did not go according to plan? Sometimes it takes coming to the bottom before you can begin again. Pray for those who find themselves at the bottom today. Pray that they might have what they need to begin again.
