Scripture – Matthew 24:34

34 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.

35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Prayer Focus: There are some verses in the Bible where I wish Jesus had been a little more clear – and verse 34 is definitely one of them! What does he mean by “this generation”? Is it just the disciples or a new generation who follow Jesus on the way to the cross? Or, often in Matthew, “this generation” refers to Jesus’ opponents, but sometimes refers to the disciples. And what does “all these things” mean? Everything before the coming of the Son of Man or maybe just the next couple of days before Jesus’ crucifixion? This is a lot for Thanksgiving Day! In your prayers today, give thanks that while all else is in flux, the Word of the Lord will not pass away. And that word is good news to you and to me.
