5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
Prayer Focus: The Gospel of John is marked by its stark contrasts. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. In this gospel, there is a battle between light and darkness. The darkness threatens, but it cannot overcome the light of the Lord. As we use this language we are conscious of the ways it is easily transferred over to give value to some skin colors as opposed to others. So, instead of darkness let us use heaviness or a shadow. If you feel a heaviness or a shadow throughout this season as a burden, which threatens to overwhelm you, pray for the light of the Lord. Lift up in your prayers today others who are struggling throughout this season of the year. Lift them up to the light.
