7 Love is always supportive,
loyal, hopeful,
     and trusting.

Prayer Focus: Always is one of those words that is hard for me. It suggests some level of perfection that I don’t think I will ever achieve. 1 Corinthians 13 is often read at weddings as a model of how couples should express their love for each other. However, I am certain that even those couples I marvel at who have been married 60 or 65 years have not yet achieved this level of perfect love, always being supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting in every circumstance. None of us is perfect. Jesus was the only perfect human ever to walk the earth, and he was also fully God! That’s why I think this passage describes God’s love for us rather than our love for each other. Can it be the model, though, to which we strive each day? Maybe our prayer should be, “God of perfect love, let me show love to others by being more supportive, more loyal, more hopeful and more trusting today than I was yesterday. Amen.”
