Saturday, September 18: Scripture – Luke 5:8-10a

8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”

9 For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken;

10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.

Prayer Focus: The overflowing catch of fish leads some to amazement. How could Jesus do something like that? The catch also leads to fear and trembling. Simon falls at Jesus’ feet and asks him to go away. Simon claims that he is a sinful man and so perhaps he fears he is not worthy of Jesus’ good favor. Or maybe he fears what Jesus might ask of him if he is able to perform miracles like this catch on simple fish. Watch for this reaction in you. When God’s good gifts come, pray that you will be amazed and accept them. Pray that you will not diminish the gift or deem yourself unworthy. God wants to go deep with you!
