Scripture – Isaiah 61:2b-3a

    to comfort all who mourn,

3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion—

    to give them a garland instead of ashes,

the oil of gladness instead of mourning,

    the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.

Prayer Focus: Love comes down to comfort all who mourn. Mourning is a natural part of grief and loss. Perhaps you have heard that the depth of our grief often corresponds to the depth of our love. Pray for those who mourn this Advent. Pray for those who anticipate a holiday ahead that will look completely different because someone is not present – due to death, divorce, relocation, or estrangement. Pray that love might bring the oil of gladness and a garland instead of ashes.
