Scripture – Romans 1:1-5

1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.

3 And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance,

4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,

5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Prayer Focus: Our first scripture reading for this week is from Paul’s letter to the Romans. These verses are one of my “go to’s” in the midst of difficult times or circumstances. And yet they seem to speak well to our Lenten and Stewardship theme, “Transformed by Love” for they remind us that even afflictions and sufferings have the potential to transform us. We have been given grace and a place to stand. We hope to share the glory of God. Affliction can produce endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. Pray that in whatever difficult moment you find yourself today that you might also know that transformation from God’s grace and Spirit.
