1 Shout out; do not hold back!
    Lift up your voice like a trumpet!
Announce to my people their rebellion,
    to the house of Jacob their sins.

2 Yet day after day they seek me
    and delight to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness
    and did not forsake the ordinance of their God;
they ask of me righteous judgments;
    they want God on their side.

Prayer Focus: We continue this week with our summer worship series, “Tending the Soul,” and turn to the spiritual practice of fasting. Our first text is Isaiah 58 and we hear that there is a disconnect between the sins of the house of Jacob and the people’s daily seeking of God. The people think they are faithfully seeking God, but in reality they forsake the ordinance of their God. Pray for the things that appear faithful, but are in fact distractions from following the way of the Lord. Pray that you might say no to those practices leading you away from the Lord.
