Scripture – Matthew 18:30-31

30 “But he refused; then he went and threw him into prison until he would pay the debt. 31 When his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place.”

Prayer Focus: By refusing to forgive his fellow slave, the first slave cheapens the grace he was shown. One scholar says that “those who truly understand the magnitude of God’s mercy must pay it forward to their debtors.” Obviously the first slave does not truly understand the mercy he was shown. And the community recognizes that when they report to the lord all that they witnessed. It is the community’s role in recognizing sin to require accountability. Pray that we as a church community might recognize what is wrong and require accountability for it from those who are responsible.
