Scripture – 1 Corinthians 1:12-13

12 What I mean is that each of you says, “I belong to Paul,” or “I belong to Apollos,” or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.”

13 Has Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?   

Prayer Focus: I often give thanks that the young church in Corinth was made up of sinful human beings who had trouble being the church (just like you and me) because if they had been perfect people Paul would not have needed to write them the letters we still treasure today as God’s word to us. The Corinthian Christians are divided into camps – the Paul camp, the Apollos camp, the Cephas camp, and the Christ camp. Would the real followers of Jesus please stand up because there’s a lot of finger pointing and following of someone other than Jesus implied here. I suspect that’s still the case with you and me. Pray that you might confess the ways you follow someone other than Jesus and the ways you use that to divide and disparage others, even in the church.
