Sunday, October 1: Scripture – Matthew 9:37-38

37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;

38 therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Prayer Focus: Jesus sees the crowds are like sheep without a shepherd, and his solution is to tell the disciples to pray. So often we read this text as a call to action on our part. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, so get to work. But verse 38 invites us to pray and ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into the harvest. God may call us to serve too, but the first step is to pray that God will meet the need. Today is World Communion Sunday, so enlarge your prayer for all those called to labor for the Lord. May the whole world have the opportunity today to witness God’s good news.
