Thursday, August 4: Scripture -Hebrews 11:13-16
13 All of these died in faith without having received the promises, but from a distance they saw and greeted them. They confessed that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth,
14 for people who speak in this way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.
15 If they had been thinking of the land that they had left behind, they would have had opportunity to return.
16 But as it is, they desire a better homeland, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; indeed, he has prepared a city for them.
Prayer Focus: Have you ever been so sure you would receive a gift, but the gift never came? That can be the case with faith as well. For the gift may be beyond our sight and grasp. By faith these ancestors lived looking forward toward the homeland God is preparing for them. If we live looking in the rearview mirror, we will miss the journey. Even when the destination remains just beyond our sight, the journey of faith is still captivating and life transforming. Pray for those who journey today. Pray for those seeking a better homeland. Pray for those who need to hear that God is not ashamed to be their God. Pray for such faith.
