Monday, August 1: Scripture – Hebrews 11:1-3

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

2 Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval.

3 By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.

Prayer Focus: We begin this week with one of scripture’s classic definitions of faith. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. As important as the created world may be, it is not all that is. Just think of the mysteries being revealed with the images from the James Webb Telescope (if you have not seen some of these yet, please look them up online!). But there is even more beyond what can be seen with the most powerful telescope, more than we can touch and see. Faith is not just wishing that were the case, but the assurance that mystery is true. Give thanks today for all you can see and touch, and pray for the faith to believe that what really matters is still beyond.
