Monday, February 21: Scripture – Luke 9:18-20
18 Once when Jesus was praying alone, with only the disciples near him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
19 They answered, “John the Baptist; but others, Elijah; and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Messiah of God.”
Prayer Focus: I am not sure that I have ever noticed before that this text begins with Jesus praying alone. I generally focus on the question, “Who do you say that I am?” and the answers provided by the disciples. And yet before Jesus asks that question or the disciples get a chance to answer it, Jesus is spending time in prayer. As you think about who Jesus is and who you tell others that he is, begin with prayer today. Listen for the voice of the Lord to you.
