Luke 1:30-33—Mary
“The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus……and of his kingdom there will be no end.’” Luke 1: 30-31, 33b
Do not be afraid. Mary is such an example of someone who could be very afraid. Her life would be turned upside down. There would have to be great trust there on her part. Betrothed to Joseph and so young, how could she not be afraid? She could be rejected by Joseph or humiliated; this would change her plans for her life. There would have to be great courage and trust on her part. SHE was chosen by GOD in hope for the world. TRUST.
I have fear of the unknown—of sickness or dying, of what we cannot control, when life can come crashing down on us, in times of stress and uncertainty—how do we handle our fears? Do we look to God in prayer? Do we put our trust in God? Do we have the courage to face our fears?
With God’s help, like Mary, I have tried to face my fears and I pray you will, too!
Prayer: Dear God, Give us courage so fear will not confuse us or weaken our faith. Fill us with your promise and take away our fears. In Jesus’ name, we pray. AMEN
