The Call, from “Light of Peace” – https://youtu.be/gEEi2xAKjhI?si=iUZBeKi5ezSzLT5B

Prayer Focus: This morning in worship the Chancel Choir and guest musicians will lead us in Unity’s Lessons and Carols Service with Light of Peace” by Karen Marrolli. “Light of Peace” grew out of the composer’s desire to create a Celtic-style Christmas anthem for her choir at Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. What began as a single piece blossomed into an entire collection of anthems. In “Light of Peace,” Marrolli artfully interweaves familiar hymn and carol melodies from Irish and Scottish traditions with beloved Celtic folk tunes, reels, and airs. You’ll hear lively tunes such as “Drowsy Maggie,” “Cooley’s Reel,” and “The Blarney Pilgrim” played by violin and flute, set alongside melodies like “Kingsfold” and “Salley Gardens” sung by the choir.

This thoughtful pairing of sacred and secular tunes mirrors the themes of Marrolli’s newly crafted texts, highlighting the wonder and unexpectedness of the Christmas story—Christ born in humble surroundings, first proclaimed to ordinary shepherds. Through this musical tapestry, Marrolli invites us to consider that the most faithful response to the Christmas message is to “live out a life of love in action.” May this be our prayer in the Christmas season: “O use us, the poor and lowly, inspired from the song from above, to seek the lost and broken, to heal the world with love.”
