Scripture – James 2:14-16
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Surely that faith cannot save, can it?
15 If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food
16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?
Prayer Focus: We shift back to the letter of James as we begin to conclude this week’s devotions. There has been a long debate in the church about the relationship between faith and good works. The letter of James comes down on the side that works are an essential part of faith. A faith that does not result in a transformed life of love and care, does not seem to be authentic saving faith. What is the good of saying “Go in peace” to one in need if there is no attempt to meet the need? Pray that your faith will have works today.
