1 “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.

Prayer Focus: This morning we shift to Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount that provide a slightly different lens on how we care for one another in community. I don’t have any evidence to support me, but I have to think that “judge not” is one of the bible verses quoted out of context more often than any other, most often as an excuse to say, “Well, I don’t believe or act that way, but it is fine with me if you do.” No, let’s not make any judgments about the actions of others because we don’t want to appear “critical” or “judgmental” or “unkind” or “intolerant.”  So we see things and just let them go.  Yes, “judge not” has become the equivalent of “live and let live.” But that sounds like Jesus is saying it does not matter how we live our lives. Pray for a deeper understanding of Jesus’ intention with this verse over the next few days.
