Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry Team – The Youth Ministry Team (YMT) is responsible for the overall vision and direction of the programs of Youth Ministry for young people in grades 6-12. YMT has determined the following goals for its programming:  1. To create opportunities for youth to develop personal relationships with God by their own initiative. 2. To provide outreach opportunities where youth may live out their call as disciples of Jesus Christ; 3. To encourage intergenerational opportunities that engage in the life of Unity Presbyterian Church. 4. To help establish a spiritual foundation grounded in Scripture. 5. To establish a a welcoming, inclusive place in which all young people experience a sense of belonging, grounded in their identity as God’s beloved children. Adults and youth may volunteer to be on the Youth Ministry Team

College Student Care Team – The College Student Care Team seeks to maintain relationships with our youth as they navigate college or begin in the work force. This Care Team coordinates the biannual mailings of cards and care packages and an annual gathering of college aged youth.

Confirmation Mentor – Mentors meet with the Confirmation Class in groups of 4-5 as assigned at least 4 times throughout the Confirmation Journey. Confirmation Mentors will be provided curriculum to guide students in considering their faith and writing their own personal faith statements which will be presented to Session in April. Mentors cultivate ongoing relationships with youth that serve to help youth embrace full membership at Unity. All Mentors must submit to a background check and participate in Safe Place Training.

Middle School Youth Advisor – MSYG Advisors help to plan and implement games, activities, devotions and small group discussions centered on the lesson of the day. Advisors are adults who are interested in building strong, committed mentor relationships with our youth. Advisors work together to lead all aspects of youth group for the day. Lessons are provided. All youth advisors must submit to a background check and participate in Safe Place Training.

High School Youth Advisor – HSYG Advisors will help to plan and implement games, activities, devotions and discussions done at regular HSYG meetings. Advisors are adults who are interested in building committed, strong mentor relationships with our youth. Advisors work together to lead all aspects of youth group. Lessons are provided. All youth advisors must submit to a background check and participate in Safe Place Training.

Prayer Breakfast Food Coordinator – Prayer Breakfast Food Coordinators will work together to provide a light breakfast for students. They will also help with set up and clean up. Expenses can be reimbursed. This is a great opportunity for adults without children in the youth program to interact with our wonderful youth.

Summer Trip Chaperone – Volunteers are needed to chaperone youth on their Summer Mission and Youth Conference trips. All chaperones must be Safe Place trained and must submit to a background check.

Weekend Retreat Chaperone – Accompany our middle and high school youth on a weekend mission trip or faith formation trip. This is a great opportunity to develop strong and lasting relationships with young people while engaging with your faith in fun and new ways!

Middle School Sunday School (Teacher; Assistant; Substitute) – Middle School Sunday School encompasses students in grades 6 and 7. Teachers are called upon in a rotating fashion; those interested in teaching would teach every 3-4 weeks. Adults may also volunteer as an Assistant Teacher, who would assist teachers in the classroom (gathering materials, engaging students, classroom management) but not have any direct teaching responsibilities. Curriculum is provided. All Sunday School Teachers and Assistants must submit to a background check and participate in Safe Place Training.

Youth Outreach Project Coordinator – Assist with identifying, planning, and leading outreach opportunities for middle and high school youth to join in God’s work with Unity’s outreach partners.

Parents of Youth Small Group Leader – Work with the Youth Ministry Team and Director of Youth Ministry to lead a small group and book study for parents of youth. This small group leader will help identify the needs of parents and assist the Youth Ministry Team in crafting programming that meets these needs and inviting other parents to join.
