Mission Outreach Ministries

Mission Outreach Ministries

Outreach Ministry Team – This team coordinates all local and international mission efforts. Provides opportunities for all ages to participate in and support service ministries. Lifts up mission outreach ministries within the community and the larger church that deserve the support of the congregation. Works with mission partners to provide support and an exchange of information.

Adult Mission Trips (Honduras; Hurricane Relief) – This team assists in planning, organizing and/or participating in annual Unity sponsored mission trips. Members of Unity are also encouraged to participate in Providence Presbytery’s mission efforts whenever offered by the Presbytery.

American Red Cross Bloodmobile (Volunteer; Donor) – Unity hosts and sponsors a bloodmobile four times each year. Volunteers are needed to help with publicity, to encourage donors, to sign-up donors, and to work the canteen the day of the bloodmobile. Most of all, Unity needs people to donate a pint of blood. This is volunteer work you can do lying down!

Children’s Attention Home – The Children’s Attention Home is a 42-bed home that provides 24 hour a day emergency and residential care and supportive services for children who have been physically or sexually abused, abandoned or neglected. The home serves children from birth through 21 years old. Volunteers are needed for tutoring, recreation, gardening, reading to toddlers, office work, arts and crafts and much more.

CROP Hunger Walk – CROP Hunger Walk, a 1 mile or 3.1 mile walk in Rock Hill, occurs in the fall season each year. The walk raises money for hunger programs through Church World Service. Twenty-five percent of the money raised in York County stays in the county for ongoing hunger programs. A coordinator(s) is needed to plan for church participation. We also need volunteers to handle publicity for the walk, coordinate sign-ups for interested walkers and donors, and walk. It’s good for your soles, too!

Dimes for Hunger – This is a Presbytery-sponsored program to raise money for hunger programs in Honduras, Guatemala, and in our 5-county presbytery. Unity’s fall program encourages individuals to give one dime per meal for one month. Members are needed to help with publicity, attend the kick-off event in Rock Hill, and to be a part of this event.

Family Promise of York County (Leadership Team) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total.  Volunteers for the Leadership team are responsible for recruiting and coordinating members for our host weeks and communicating with the Family Promise Executive Director and Board.

Family Promise of York County (Grocery Shoppers) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total. Volunteers are needed to purchase groceries to be used by the families during the week at the Family Promise Center.

Family Promise of York County (Linen Washer) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total. Volunteers are needed to wash laundry following our host weeks.

Family Promise of York County (Meal Host) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total. Volunteers are needed to cook and serve dinner to the families.

Family Promise of York County (Overnight Host) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total. Volunteers are needed to sleep at the church overnight and see the families off the next morning.

Family Promise of York County (Set up/Clean up Team) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total. Volunteers are needed to help with set up and clean up during our host weeks.

Family Promise of York County (Transportation Host) – Family Promise is a local non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter, support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children. Unity participates in this mission by providing sleeping rooms and meals in our church to homeless families one week per quarter. The family capacity is limited to 4 families, with no more than 14 persons total. Volunteers are needed to provide transportation to the day center, doctor’s visits, job interviews, etc.

Fort Mill Care Center – The Fort Mill Care Center serves those in the community who are in need. Members are needed to work in the food pantry or to help interview clients. Donations of canned goods and school supplies are always welcome.

Go MAD Day Planning Team – This team assists in planning, organizing and/or participating in Unity’s annual Go MAD Day – Go Make a Difference – an intergenerational mission blitz for ALL AGES (4 and up) offering participants the opportunity to serve locally while building community with others of all ages in our congregation. This team also trains project coordinators for each ministry or mission project.

Habitat for Humanity – Volunteer to help build and repair homes for deserving families in the York County area. Unity will sponsor work days each year. Workers of all skill levels, 16 and older, are welcome.

Historic Paradise Neighborhood – At various times throughout the year, the Mission Outreach Ministries team coordinates with other ministry teams at Unity on projects in support of the Historic Paradise neighborhood centered on nearby Steele Street. Sign up for this volunteer opportunity if you would like to be contacted to assist with these projects.

Living Waters for the World – The mission of Living Waters for the World is to provide clean drinking water in locations with that need. Unity has worked in partnership with locations in Mexico over the past decade to provide these clean water systems. Providence Presbytery has recently formed a Presbytery-wide Living Waters Team that replaces Unity’s Living Waters Team. Volunteers wanting to participate in future clean water installations in Honduras & Guatemala are welcome to receive training at Clean Water University in Mississippi. Volunteers are needed in these areas as we work to expand this ministry.

Meal Delivery through York County Council on Aging (YCCA) – York County Council on Aging provides a hot meal and companionship to the elderly in our community who are in need. Volunteers are needed to help with the home-delivered meals on a weekly or substitute basis.

Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) – RAIN is a program which enables volunteers, working in Care Teams, to live out their faith in service to persons living with AIDS. RAIN’s mission is to develop an informed, compassionate response to those persons. New team members are welcome.

Seasonal Missions (Angel Tree; Classroom Ready; Sharing God’s Bounty) – The Outreach Ministry encourages participation in the Sharing God’s Bounty food drive and the Angel Tree service project before and during Advent. Also, participation in Classroom Ready collection of school supplies in July/August is desired. Other mission projects, such as Blankets Plus and the collection of used eyeglasses, take place all year. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate, oversee, publicize, and participate in these projects.

Second Harvest Partners – This is a program with the overall goal of decreasing hunger in York County. Short-term assistance is provided by food delivered on a tractor-trailer and distributed to those in need. Long-term assistance is provided by development of a strategy that empowers people to become self-sufficient. Unity volunteers are asked to partner with Second Harvest Partners and with other congregations in our area on the assigned work day to assist with organization, unloading the truck of food, filling grocery bags, assisting with parking, greeting guests, and distributing food to individuals.
