Wednesday, September 21: Scripture – Luke 16:22-23
22 The poor man died and was carried away by the angels to be with Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 In Hades, where he was being tormented, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side.
Prayer Focus: Both men die and their positions are reversed. The rich man is tormented in Hades and the poor man rests with Abraham. We should note today that there are two individuals who receive names in this story. One is Abraham, the father of the faith, and the other is the poor man, Lazarus. Being named in the parable gives Lazarus dignity and worth. How does it change our thinking if those we seek to help are not “the poor,” but individuals we know by name? Pray that you might learn the name of someone in need today, for they are a beloved child of God.
