Exodus 12:6-10: ⁶ You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembled congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. ⁷ They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. ⁸ They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. ⁹ Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs, and inner organs. ¹⁰ You shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn with fire.

Prayer Focus: Once again, God reminds us that the Passover meal is not private. The “whole assembled congregation of Israel” is instructed to participate, together, at the exact same time. The lambs are to be roasted whole, not cut up or separated. It all must be eaten that night, together with others. No one person may decide to take their own piece of lamb and hide it away until tomorrow. Instead, anything that is left over must be burned. There is enough for everyone to have what they need for today. God will take care of what comes tomorrow.

What would it look like for us to view our treasured resources in this way? Not as personal keepsakes that are to be locked away, hidden from others, and saved for a rainy day, but as resources given to us by God and designed to benefit the whole community. Today, I pray that we might find opportunities to view our resources in this way and be open to the ways the Holy Spirit moves us to share them with others.
