35 And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!” 36 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, 37 and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”
Prayer Focus: If Jesus had wanted to save himself, there is no doubt that he could have done so. Angel armies could have come to his rescue. He could have avoided the cross altogether. And yet, his goal and purpose was not to save himself. It was to save you. It was to save me. Do not mock and scoff at those who sacrifice their own interests, even their very self, for others. Perhaps that is where they meet Christ and know joy. Pray that you might truly appreciate the gift Christ has given you by not saving himself from the cross.
