5 Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce.
6 Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.
Prayer Focus: We have been talking about how the people long to leave their exile in Babylon and return home to Jerusalem. Yet, God’s word to them in this letter is to stay put. Build houses, plant gardens, create the next generation through marriage and bearing children. This is not advice, to just bide your time in exile. It is a command to flourish where you are planted. Pray that you might stand up, bear fruit, and see the ways God wants you to follow him right where you are.
