10 He is a bear lying in wait for me,
a lion in hiding;
11 he led me off my way and tore me to pieces;
he has made me desolate;
12 he bent his bow and set me
as a mark for his arrow.
13 He shot into my vitals
the arrows of his quiver;
14 I have become the laughingstock of all my people,
the object of their taunt songs all day long.
Prayer Focus: Yesterday the verses encouraged us to lament the ways we feel trapped. Today, the poet feels actively under attack as if by a bear or lion, an archer, and the torment of others taunting and laughing. Consider the times when you have felt attacked. What emotions, fears, or anxieties do those memories raise up for you. Have you ever felt attacked by God? Lift up these emotions, fears, and anxieties to God in your prayers today.
