Wednesday, July 26

Throughout the months of June and July, our daily devotions will be invitations to pray, perhaps in familiar ways and sometimes in new ways. This week, we will explore a practice of praying throughout the day, adding one additional time of day to our prayer practice each day. In addition to Praising God When You Wake and Asking God to Be Present at the Beginning of Your Day’s Work, add Turning Your Focus Outward During Lunchtime.1 Pray for the world. You may want to pray for your local community, state, nation, and the world, or for particular needs that you know of in our world today. Close by praying a portion of Psalm 27.

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

    whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

    of whom shall I be afraid?
One thing I asked of the Lord;

    this I seek:

to live in the house of the Lord

    all the days of my life,

to behold the beauty of the Lord,

    and to inquire in his temple.

For he will hide me in his shelter

    in the day of trouble;

he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

    he will set me high on a rock.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord

    in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord;

    be strong, and let your heart take courage;

    wait for the Lord!

                        Psalm 27: 1, 4-5, 13-14 (NRSV)
