Scripture – Matthew 4:17

17 From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Prayer Focus: Jesus begins his public preaching and proclamation with a twofold message. First, “repent” or turn around, choose a new direction, because the way you are headed leads to trouble. Second, the reason to repent is that “the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Other gospels call it the kingdom of God, but the sense is the same. God’s kingdom, God’s intention for the world, God’s intervention into the world here and now, has come near. So, Jesus’ message is an invitation to turn away from the kingdoms of the world and turn to the kingdom of God. Pray that you might repent and turn your life toward the kingdom of God today.
