Wednesday, December 28: Scripture – Isaiah 61:2-3
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a garland instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.
Prayer Focus: The year of the Lord’s favor is a year of Jubilee. It is a year to reset all that has been lost and to begin again. Three times in these verses there is reference to mourning being replaced with gladness or comfort. What are you mourning as this year ends? What do you need to turn over to the Lord so that you might receive the oil of gladness? Pray that you might open your heart and your hands to the joy Christ seeks to give you today.
