17 For thus says the Lord: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,
18 and the levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to make grain offerings, and to make sacrifices for all time.
Prayer Focus: The promise is that there will always be someone to sit on the throne of the house of David and a priest to offer sacrifices in the temple. This is an amazing promise because the people are in exile. The line of Davidic kings has been interrupted and the temple has been destroyed. Still, God promises that these things will be restored. We know that both of these promises are not fulfilled today in the same way the people of Israel initially saw them. They are both fulfilled in Jesus Christ – our Lord and our High Priest. Pray for eyes to see that how God chooses to fulfill the promises he makes, is often quite different from what we expect.
