22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
Prayer Focus: Instead of waiting until Pentecost, in the Gospel of John we find Jesus giving the disciples the Holy Spirit on the night of his resurrection. He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” He then reminded them that as they hold onto the sins of anyone, both will be bound by them. As they forgive the sins of any, freedom becomes a possibility. This is descriptive of the power of forgiveness possessed by disciples of Jesus Christ. Pray that you might exercise this power of forgiveness today, so that you and others might be free.
